Year Six Class News

The Year Sixes have had an exhilarating start to their final term of Primary School! They have had the opportunity to participate in many activities within the school this term.

At the beginning of the term the Year Six students, accompanied by their teachers and some generous helpers, attended the Chisholm College Art Show and Groundwater Replenishment Centre. This was a very beneficial excursion as it allowed the students to see the exciting opportunities that await many of them at Chisholm next year!

The Year Sixes have also written explanations based on their learning at the Groundwater Replenishment Centre, which contained many insightful facts.

As part of the Infant Jesus Year Six tradition, the students have begun their Dance Lessons on a Wednesday afternoon. After overcoming some initial jitters, all the students have enthusiastically participated and are enjoying the experience. They are looking forward to sharing all their dancing skills at the Dinner Dance later in the term.

Last week the students participated in China Day activities with the Year Ones. They ensured the Year Ones had a fantastic time. Integrating our current writing focus of Point of View, the students wrote texts from the perspective of a new Chinese Exchange Student attending their first day at Infant Jesus School!

A few snippets from the Year Six writing focus ‘Point of View’ from a new Chinese Exchange Student are included below –

‘I was amazed by the tiny school and all the different shapes seen on the buildings. I started to realise that this was a very multi-cultural school because everyone looked different from each other. I was asked to play a game called hand-ball. It has the same rules as tennis but instead you have to bounce the ball into your square first with your hands.’ (Van)

‘When I first walked into my new class, I was amazed to see so many different types of furniture all over the place and I thought they were having a party with all the bright colours on the wall.’ (Victoria)

‘I made a few friends. They were lovely and taught me a lot about the school and that everything was very different from China. I didn’t know that Infant Jesus School has an oval that you can get to easily and play on. I had the most fun. I played soccer and then played chasey after the soccer ball went over the fence. There were other Year Sixes wearing red bibs. I asked ‘Why?’ and it is because they are in Wellness Ministry.’ (Sofia)

Congatulations

Claudia Romeo (3W) just got back from Singapore where she competed in the  26th International Prime Gymnastics Competition and came 3rd in the Level 4 Vault.  Well done Claudia.
