OH WHAT A NIGHT!

On Friday 23 February, the Year 6 students participated in a school sleepover.  This event promoted leadership, team building and independence. We are extremely proud of our students for their efforts and behaviour (even if they didn’t get a lot of sleep!).

The students arrived back at school at 6pm where they unpacked their sleeping bags and mattresses in the iLab and Library.  Then they participated in ‘The Amazing Race’ which was held in the Hall and Piazza.  The Amazing Race was a series of seven activities all designed to encourage teamwork, resilience, perseverance and a positive attitude.  The children did a fantastic job and demonstrated excellent team work skills!

The next morning the Year 6 parents returned to collect their children and have breakfast with them.  This was a wonderful way to end such a successful event.

We are all so grateful for the staff at Infant Jesus School who helped to make this event possible:

Mr Hille, Mr Colangelo, Miss Moffat, Miss Myles, Mrs Padua, Mrs Spadaccini, Miss Ziino, Miss Witkowski, Mrs Tampalini, Mrs Ienco, Mrs Pugliese and Mrs Kosovich.

Please read our written recounts from the students and listen and view our Apple Clips recounts of the night.

CONFIRMATION

The Year 6 students are extremely excited to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year.  Following our sleepover, the students attended one of the enrolment masses held at Infant Jesus Parish over the weekend.  In preparation for Confirmation, the students will soon start to research a chosen saint. The children are really looking forward to receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation and strengthening their relationship with God.

LEADERSHIP

As you are aware, our school leaders have written letters to Mr Hille expressing their interests in Ministries and have received their Leaders badges. Part of their leadership training is to further investigate leaders in our school, community and our world.  During Week Two, the students had a class visit from Mr Hille where he discussed with them the importance of leadership, qualities and skills of a good leader and also took the time to answer questions that the students had about leadership.  The children participated in collaborative discussions about what leadership looks like, sounds like and feels like. They then fired some questions at Mr Hille to gain a better insight into what leadership is really all about.

I believe that leaders look like they show pride in their school and themselves. You see leaders being role models to people who are younger than them and being inspiring to them. You hear leaders saying kind words to others and not speaking rudely to people. Leaders feel like they are proud to be a leader of their school or whatever place they are in.

Leadership looks like responsible, well presented people, who collaborate with others and when communicating they always show respect by using eye contact. Leadership sometimes make you anxious and proud. Leadership sounds like communication and  laughing and sounds like hard work.

You can be sure to EXPECT GREAT THINGS of the Year 6s this year.

INFANT JESUS SCHOOL SLEEPOVER

Recount by Amara Thaung

On Friday night, 23 February 2018, the Year 6 Students at Infant Jesus School attended a sleepover. We did a range of activities and watched a movie.

First, we all arrived at 6:00pm and met in the school Library and iLab, where we were going to sleep. We chose and set up our beds, parents kissed us goodbye, and quickly entered the school hall for activities.

For the activities, we were put into groups with staff members as our leaders. We participated in ‘The Amazing Race’ consisting of 7 challenges; Rip the Mintie; where you had to rip thin strands of the Mintie wrapper without breaking it, House of Cards, Marshmallow and Pasta Tower, Junk in the Trunk, where we uses tissue boxes and put ping-pong balls in them and jumped up and down to try and get them out. We did an untangling game, where we held hands, tangled together and tried to get out.  We also did a game where we had carpet squares and we would lay them down to step on and try not to step on the ‘lava’, aka the floor. Finally, a Ping-Pong Challenge. For each activity we received a stamp and afterwards, we counted how many stamps each team got and the winning team were rewarded with a The Golden Ticket each which allowed them to choose where they wanted to sit for the movie later on (my team won). Not Long after we gathered in a circle around the large cross and we wrote the things we were grateful for and put them around the cross. We then headed back to the Library, brushed our teeth, got into our pyjamas and prepared for the movie.

During the movie we had our delicious candy and watched it. We went to bed with girls in the Library and boys in the iLab. The staff woke us up at 6am and we got out of our pyjamas, cleaned our mess from the night before, put all the furniture back and soon it was 7am and parents started to arrive for breakfast. We joined our parents, collected and ate our bacon and egg rolls that the amazing staff made for us and then went home.

I thought the sleepover was really awesome and I would like to thank Mr Hille for letting us have it and the teachers for participating and making it so fun.

Mr Hille: Does being a leader ever get tiring?                                    – Annabelle

Leadership looks like responsible, well presented people, who collaborate with others and when communicating they always show respect by using eye contact. Leadership sometimes make you anxious and proud. Leadership sounds like communication and  laughing and sounds like hard work

The big question:
How does it feel being the leader of Infant Jesus School and do you get anxious when making big decisions?                                                                                       – Tenielle

BIN THE BAGS

The children have started to pose questions about their world in relation to sustainability.  The aim of this unit is to understand how the children can take care of their environment and surrounds to make the world a more sustainable place.  This unit will continue for an entire semester as we rack our brains about how to solve the world!

You can be sure to EXPECT GREAT THINGS of the Year 6s this year.
