Power of One
As Staff in a Catholic School we are called to follow the model of Jesus and share the Good News. In sharing this Good News we aim to make a difference by enriching the lives of all we serve in this community.
In the gospel of Matthew Jesus reminds us that;
“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavour? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world-like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
(Matthew 5:13 NLT)
Jesus is telling us that we, like salt, should make a difference in the situations we are in. Just as a little ‘salt’ can change the flavour of something, a thought, an action, a deed, a word, the generosity of sharing of gifts, talents and effort can go a long way to enrich the life of another person. One person can make a difference to the lives of others – It is the power of one. God is calling us and inviting us to make a contribution. You may be the only Christian whom some people will never know. The fact is, that God can do a lot with a little.
Since 2017 the staff at Infant Jesus School have participated in a Christian Witness Program to integrate the principles of Catholic social teaching into practical experiences of service to others in society. To do this staff generously give one hour a week over a selected period of time during the year. We believe as a school community that our staff are not only dedicated, qualified, innovative and professional, but also share close interactions within the school, parish and local community. We are people who are motivated to make a difference.
During the last five years the staff have thoughtfully considered the needs and interests of the school and the wider community and developed many innovative ideas to provide for others. These have included;
- Parish Baptism Classes for Parents
- Lenten Prayer Reflection Group for Parents
- Church cleaning
- St Vincent de Paul
- Cooking meals for those in need
- Book Club
- Art Club
- Coding Club
- Homework Club
- Knitting Club
- Coding Club
- Singing
- Zumba Dancing
- Christmas Food and Decorations
We continue to increase our awareness of the needs of others in the community and focus on working together to provide purposeful and interesting activities for all. We look forward to hearing your ideas.
At Infant Jesus School we continue to demonstrate that the ‘Power of One’ – can, and does, make a difference.
